Driving a cabriolet on the open road

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before joining an Orius driving vacation.

What kind of car do I need to bring?

Our tours are designed for Porsche vehicles, but we welcome all makes of sports and GT cars. If you're joining without a car, we can help arrange a rental Porsche for the duration of the tour.

What's included in the tour price?

All tours are fully inclusive: luxury hotel accommodations, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), welcome and farewell receptions, detailed road books and GPS routes, professional guide support, and a sweep car. Fuel costs are typically the only out-of-pocket expense.

Do I need an international driving permit?

For most European countries, a valid US driver's license is sufficient for stays under 90 days. However, we recommend obtaining an International Driving Permit (IDP) as an additional form of identification — it's available at your local AAA office for about $20.

What about vehicle insurance in Europe?

If you're bringing your own Porsche via factory delivery, we'll help arrange comprehensive European insurance. If you're renting, insurance is typically included in the rental agreement. We provide detailed guidance for every scenario.

How large are the tour groups?

We keep groups intimate — typically 20 to 30 participants (10-15 cars). This ensures a personal, club-like atmosphere and smooth logistics on the road.

What's the driving pace like?

Spirited but safe. We're not racing — we're on vacation. Routes are designed for driving pleasure with plenty of scenic stops, photo opportunities, and lunch breaks. You drive at your own pace within the group structure.

Can non-drivers/spouses participate?

Absolutely. Many participants travel as couples. Co-drivers enjoy the scenery, the cultural stops, the gourmet dining, and the camaraderie — no driving required.

What if I want to recover my car after the tour?

We can arrange door-to-door vehicle shipping back to the United States after your tour. This is especially popular with factory delivery participants. Full logistics coordination is included in our service.

How far in advance should I book?

Tours often sell out months ahead, particularly the Alpine and Le Mans tours. We recommend booking at least 6-8 months in advance to secure your preferred dates.

Is there a book I can read to prepare?

Yes! Peter Sontag's "Driving in Europe" guidebook is included complimentary with every booking. It covers everything from road signs to fuel types, tolls, and etiquette for driving across Europe.
